While you’re protecting yourself from the sun this summer, don’t forget to do the same for your pet.
Cats typically get sunburned on the tips of their ears, while dogs are susceptible to sunburns on their noses and bellies.
To prevent your pet from sunburn:
- Limit outdoor time during the sunniest and warmest parts of the day. Exercise them early in the morning or later in the day.
- Use sunscreen, but not one that humans use as they contain ingredients toxic to pets. Choose a pet-safe sunscreens that pet markets carry.
If your pet does get sunburned, a cool compress can help offer relief. If you have concerns about the burn, contact your vet immediately.
